It’s the time of the season for…meetings (2025) 7pm at the Slovak Legion
Please join the regulars who arrive at 6pm in order to avail themselves of the great food and a bit of mostly OK beers. Nothing English you understand. So there goes the neighbourhood. But yee can’t be too crackered and creamed to enjoy a pig’s ear but if you’re plannin’ on gettin’ Brahms & Liszt yer trouble & strife won’t be none too pleased. Or as my Curtis relatives in the Beautiful South would say: it’s per ardua for we lovers of Lost & Grounded Keller Pils who has to go without in this (former) Colony. This Bristol-brewed lager is unfiltered, unpasteurised, and hazy. Kinda like me. Blimey! Or when I’m visiting my property in Ireland: ‘Ara! Are you coddin??? 2026 Red River Rendezvous
Planning for our Rendezvous, to be held June 11-13 next year, is well under way by the 22 members of our organizing committee representing the BCCM, AHCM and the MCMG (see list below). We have had 3 general meetings already, the last one at the Selkirk Golf Club where we plan to hold our Thursday “meet and greet” and our Saturday “windup banquet”.
Although not cast in stone, in between the meet and greet and the banquet we have a great event coming together that will continue Friday morning with guided and self guide tours to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, potentially Lower Fort Garry and an excursion to Gimli. On Friday afternoon we will have parking lot activities at the Canalta Hotel Selkirk that will include the valve cover racing, pit stop challenge and potentially a funkahana followed by a picnic in the park Friday evening. Saturday will start with pictures, a poker rally and then our charity car show on the waterfront. The event will cap off with the banquet at the golf course.
Now that we have a name for our Rendezvous we need a logo. Our logo will be use on all advertising and correspondence related to the event including posters, banners, signs and what ever event gift we include in the registration bag. We are asking anyone with an idea for a logo to submit it to us by July 6th at Peter Foreman’s block party. Once we have all the submissions we will turn them over to someone with experience in graphic arts and then have our committee vote on them.
Lastly, we would like to encourage everyone who wants to be close to the action to call the Canalta Hotel at 204 482 7474 and book your room. Just mention 2026 Rendezvous to get the discounted rate.

Valve Cover Racing at Rendezvous ’26
Rendezvous 2026 Parking Lot Activities will include Valve Cover Racing!
For those seeking more information about this heart-stopping sport need look no further than here or check out the gallery of ‘car’s on FaceBook.

For valve cover racing, a lighter valve cover is generally better because it can lead to a faster time, but heavier covers might have a slight edge if they have better balance or can be customized with weights to optimize their performance. The key is not just the initial weight but also the overall center of gravity, balance, and any other factors like height or size that could affect performance.
| Aspect | Lighter Valve Cover | Heavier Valve Cover |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | Potentially faster due to less inertia and weight. | Can be customized for balance and may perform better. |
| Customization | Unlimited options. | Can be customized with weights or other modifications. |
| Materials | Plastic, aluminum, or magnesium. | Various materials are available, including heavier billet aluminum or steel. |
| Overall | A light valve cover is a good starting point for racing, but a heavy one might be better with customization. |
